• Long weekends: During the October 2–4 weekend, private cabs, taxis and two-wheeler taxis were restricted near Kainchi Dham. People coming via the Gethia–Nainital route parked at Bhowali Sanatorium, and people coming via Bhimtal parked at Bhimtal Vikas Bhawan.
• Possible registration: Officials have talked about requiring advance registration of visitors and asking people to book their stay before arriving. This was only a proposal at the time of writing

4. Nainital to Kainchi Dham Route

The route is simple:

Nainital → Bhowali → Kainchi Dham

You leave Nainital towards Bhowali, then continue on the Nainital–Almora road. Kainchi Dham is about 9 km after Bhowali. The temple sits in a narrow valley between a hill and a stream, so there is very little open space around it. That is why traffic gets stuck so easily.

5. How to Go From Nainital to Kainchi Dham

Taxi: This is the most comfortable option for families, but check the current rules first. On some busy days, taxis are not allowed all the way to the temple, so you may need to switch to a shuttle near the end. Ask the driver where they will drop you, and whether the price includes waiting and the return trip.₹1,200 to ₹1,500 for a hatchback (one-way)

Bus or shared vehicle: Buses and shared vehicles run on the Nainital–Almora route. It’s cheaper, but timings are not fixed, and the return trip needs planning. ₹100 to ₹200 per person

• Early morning: Leave Nainital by 6:30–7:30 am. This is the best way to avoid traffic.
• Weekdays: Much quieter than weekends.
• Summer (April–June): Pleasant weather, but crowded.
• Monsoon (July–September): Green and beautiful, but landslides and heavy rain can block the road.
• Autumn (October–November): Clear weather and good views, though long weekends can be crowded.
• Winter: Cold, so carry warm clothes.
